Life Line Program
About the Program
The Longport Police Department instituted this program to assist our elderly citizens to maintain their independence and enjoy living in the confines of their home.
We can assist family and friends of our elderly residents by having them call daily advising us that they are ok and not in need of any help. This service is provided free of charge and certainly helps in easing the minds of relatives who are close in heart, but far in distance.
Every morning, seven days a week, we ask that the lifeline participant check in with us by giving us a telephone call before 10:00am. If they do not call in by that time, we give a phone call to the home to see if maybe the check-in call was forgotten. If we do not get a response, we dispatch an officer to that location to check on the status of our "lifeliner".
Program Rules
A few simple rules for our Life Line Program...
- You must be a resident within the Borough of Longport.
- You must have a telephone that is able to make and receive phone calls.
- You must be a senior citizen or disabled person who lives alone.
- You must be a registered member of Life Line.
- You must be able to call police dispatch between the hours of 6:00am to 10:00am daily.
- You must notify police dispatch in advance if you are not able to call on a particular day, for example, if you go on vacation.
- If you are hospitalized, your emergency contact person must notify police dispatch.
