Special Class 1 Police Officer

A Class 1 Police Officer is required to complete a Police Training Commission approved Class 1 Police Academy. Prospective hires will attend the Cape May County Police Academy and attend a two week long course beginning in May. All recruits will be trained in handcuffing, defensive tactics, motor vehicle law, OC spray, etc. The Longport Police Department utilizes these officers on bicycle patrol to enforce parking and ordinance violations as well as traffic and crowd control.
