Multiple Stolen Vehicles in Longport over the weekend.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Longport, New Jersey - On Friday, August 2nd, 2024, the Longport Police Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. A black BMW X7 was reported stolen from the 100 block of North 36th Avenue and upon further investigation, a silver Honda Accord that was reported stolen out of Mays Landing was located in front of a residence neighboring the report. Surveillance footage revealed that the silver Honda was dropped off at approximately 11:47 PM and the BMW was stolen shortly thereafter. The BMW was entered into police databases as stolen and its location was later revealed by Longport Officer Liam Nolan as being in Ventnor, driving west on Ventnor Avenue. Margate and Ventnor police departments were advised, and the vehicle was located on Atlantic Avenue by the Margate Police Department; however fled the scene at a high rate of speed before officers could apprehend it. The BMW was later found abandoned behind a residence in the area of the 1500 block of Baltic Avenue in Atlantic City, with front passenger side damage. Longport Officer Liam Nolan was able to regain custody of the stolen vehicle where it was later released to its owner.
Days later, on August 5th, Longport Sergeant Quinton Wright observed a black Hyundai Sonata traveling the wrong direction on the unit block of North 36th Avenue near Winchester Avenue. The vehicle was seen turning into the driveway of a residence in the area, making a U-turn, and heading towards Ventnor Avenue. Sgt Wright attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop in the area of Washington/Ventnor Avenue in Margate; however the vehicle sped away, prompting dispatch to alert Margate, Ventnor, and Atlantic City police departments. Contact was made with the owner of the vehicle in Atlantic City where it was then revealed to be stolen and subsequently reported. The vehicle was occupied by a black male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. As of now, the vehicle remains missing.
The Longport Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind residents once again about the importance of securing their vehicles and removing the keys to prevent car thefts. It is crucial to keep valuables out of sight and to always lock doors and windows to deter potential thieves. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.
