FBI National Academy Graduate

Chief1

Congratulations to Chief Frank Culmone for becoming the first Longport Police Officer to be nominated, selected, and graduate from the FBI National Academy (Session 286).

The ten-week FBI National Academy program was created in 1935 by FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover. Students selected to attend this program must go through a thorough FBI background investigation and meet educational and physical prerequisites. Only the top 1% of law enforcement leaders worldwide are selected to attend.

The FBI National Academy is founded on three pillars, academics, physical fitness, and networking.

Academics: All FBI NA students are required to take college-level courses (undergraduate or graduate) through the University of Virginia. Chief Culmone selected all master’s level courses and completed those courses as one of the top students in his academy class, earning a graduate certificate from the University of Virginia.

Courses completed by Chief Culmone:

  • Contemporary Issues Confronting Law Enforcement Executives
  • Constitutional Law and Policing: Trends, Analysis, Application
  • Seminar in Executive Writing
  • Seminar in Managing the Law Enforcement Image
  • Essentials for Law Enforcement Executives
  • Fitness in Law Enforcement

Physical Fitness: All FBI NA students participated in multiple fitness challenges for the opportunity to run the famous Yellow Brick Road. The Yellow Brick Road is a grueling 6.1-mile obstacle course created by the US Marine Corps through the hills of Quantico. Chief Culmone successfully completed all the fitness challenges as well as the Yellow Brick Road earning the notable Yellow Brick.

Networking: Over the 10-week course, Chief Culmone had the opportunity to network, developing relationships/bonds with 238 other FBI National Academy students that represented 47 states and 25 countries, five military organizations, and six federal civilian organizations.

As a leader, Chief Culmone’s efforts are inspiring as he continues to pave the way for officers throughout the Downbeach community by setting the bar higher each and everyday. We are extremely proud of Chief Culmone’s accomplishments and are excited to have him back at the helm. Congrats sir!
