Are dogs allowed on the Longport beachfront?

(Borough Ordinance 82-8).

Winter Rule: Commencing October 1 and continuing through April 30, dogs are permitted on Longport beaches, provided that the dog is securely fastened to a leash and accompanied by and under control of some person.

Summer rule: Commencing on, and to include May 1, and continuing to and including September 30, dogs are permitted on Longport beaches fronting the Atlantic Ocean from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., provided that the dog is securely fastened to a leash and accompanied by and under control of some person.

§ 82-13 Running at large prohibited.

It shall be unlawful for any dog, whether licensed or not, to run at large in the Borough of Longport. A dog shall be deemed to be running at large when off the premises of its owner or of the person keeping or harboring such dog and not on a leash or the like, the overall length of which, including the hand grip, shall not exceed six feet, held by its owner or other person able to control such dog.
